I've seen this cracking too.  As a matter of fact, the Cirrus SR22 that
we used for the preflight contest in the NAFI booth last year at OSH had
that problem, and the bracket was broken clear off and just laying
there.  I've seen it on at least two other occasions in Lancair IO550's
too, but only cracks.

  cooler after 133 hours. A conversation with an A&P
  indicates that he sees a lot of cracks in these
  coolers. I didn't ask for his definition of "a lot."
  My engine is out of warranty, however I have been
  discussing the problem with Continental and trying to
  get them to cover the cost for a new cooler.
