We once did this with Cessna 180s and 185s (O-470s, IO-520s, IO-550s
with 82" 2-blades to 88" 3-blades) and got results from 800 to 1200
lbs. Used a hydraulic "fish scale" tied off to the bumper hitch on a
pickup.
The longer props pull better as far as static thrust. We are more
interested in take-off performance with those birds, short strips,
floats, etc. We finally decided there was no correlation between static
thrust and cruise efficiency.

Has anyone
tethered and measured the maximum static thrust of their prop ... and
what kind of prop?
Terrence,
Nope, but you can tie your tail to mine anytime and we can see
who wins the tractor pull.
