I also had to install the step after having installed the wing root fairings.
It was no picnic, however, it worked and I am real happy having it instead of
the "apple crate". You can cut out an access port on the top of the left
wing root fairing for install. and maintenance access and do the rest through
the wing root and the gear door area. I believe I cut an elongated hole about
2" high by about 6-8" long on top of the wing root and installed flanges and
nut plates to hold the access plate in. Don't forget to grease the spring
plunger mechanism and the rest of the step moving parts before you close it
up. This has been the only problem I've had over several hundred step
operations thus far. Good luck.
