Having worked hard to build beautiful rudders, we used the lead piece supplied by Lancair to weight the counterbalance area. A quick check showed the rudder to be overbalanced. Off to the paint shop and about 0.5 pounds of paint and primer later, the rudder is now underbalanced. A quick calculation of weight/arm shows that 0.5 pounds aft requires a need for 2.5 more pounds forward, especially if more of the weight is further aft. Damn, another setback. That said, what are the solutions? Tungsten is heavier than lead and one suggestion is to drill 1" holes in the lead and replacing same with 1" tungsten rod until back in balance. I have not found anyone in the military willing to sell spent uranium! Any other suggestions?
