My rationale was to eliminate a cable through the pressure bulkhead/firewall and perhaps(?) save a bit of weight. Comments/thoughts appreciated. Have just completed and tested a rotating "spit" for our fast-build fuselages. Consists of a square tubing/pipe assembly that bolts to the firewall in place of the motor mount, with the pipe sticking forward--a spit. The rear support consists of a plywood disk that clamps around the fuselage forward of the tail assembly and runs on two boat trailer rollers. Used the Lancair-designed 4x4 support posts/feet, but widened the rear one so the 30" plywood disk could fit within the vertical posts. I'd estimate my total cost was about $120, with half of that going for outside welding. Haven't yet used it for actual work on the fuselage (a week or two away), but several observers have offered to bring marshmellows and barbeque sauce--- Could try to send a digital photo if there is any interest.
