Rob,
I'm not here to bad mouth AFS. I did
make a mistake about the screen size, it was the 8.4" I liked, the 10" is some I
was looking at from MGL.
I've have used your support in a
recent installation in a friends LNC2, not perfect but good.
The problem is, and this has been my
experience, at the Oshkosh show for the last two years I talked to the people at
your booth. And for the last two years they have told me that everything the
other systems are doing AFS's WILL be doing. This included: GPS, maps, HITS,
HSI, etc. I was told at the 2006 Osh show it would be done by November 2006, now
at the 2007 Osh show I was told it's coming, that the programmers can only work
so fast.
As I said before, it's too bad you are
so far behind the competition in this price range. Dynons do what yours does for
less then half the price. If you get yours working as promised I believe it will
be a wonderful system.
Your systems look good and, what does
work, works good. For two years I was ready to hand the AFS guy my credit card
but I'm so glad I didn't. I have nothing against AFS but for the same money
there's plenty of WORKING systems out there.
For what it's
worth.

Marv,
Could you please post this to the
LML?
Randy,
I am not sure where you have been
getting your information or if you have Advanced Flight Systems confused with
another EFIS manufacturer. We showed our first EFIS System 1 ˝ years ago
at Sun-n-Fun. When we showed the EFIS system for the first time last
year at Sun-n-Fun and Oshkosh we did not have any plans for GPS,
HITS, or mapping. It was an EFIS, AOA, and Engine Monitor only, up to
this point we had zero plans to do a map and we actually showed it with a
Garmin 396. Very late last year we started development on a moving map
option for the system. This year at Sun-n-Fun we showed for the very
first time our new moving map that was still under development. By
Oshkosh of
this year we had delivered over 150 EFIS systems and had around 10 beta test
customers flying the new moving map and our new version 5 software. We
have since released the new version 5 software, moving map software and
delivered many more systems. We have been deeply involved with
Honywell-Bendix/King on their new KFD 840 EFIS system and, in addition,
purchased a new 7,500 square-ft facility. We currently have 10 employees
and are interviewing for a production/purchasing manager and electronics
technicians. We have five full-time engineers; three of them work on
software full time.
Currently our moving map has the
following features: State lines, public and private airports, airspaces,
intersections, obstacles and towers. We also have airport information
including TPA, frequencies, elevation, right or left traffic and airport
remarks. The map also supports Direct To, Nearest and will display data
from a 430, 530, 480, 396 and 496. We do not now, nor do we plan on
having an internal GPS receiver.
We have the AF-3400 system that
uses a 6.5” LCD and the AF-3500 system that uses an 8.4” LCD. We do not have
or have we ever promised a 10” screen.
We are NOT currently working on
HITS, we are working on terrain and XM weather.
I don’t understand the comment
about Advanced Flight continually making promises that go undelivered.
The only complaint we hear, and justly deserve, is that it has taken people
longer than expected to get their units. We have NEVER promised features
that have gone undelivered. I would challenge you to find anyone that
has anything bad to say about our support. There is nothing more important to
us than customer service. I live on a private airport (OR40) and have my
cell phone number on our company answering machine. If anyone ever has a
problem they are free to call anytime (I have helped customers on Christmas
morning) or fly in for assistance, and believe me…they do and we are happy to
do it.
