Chat,
Your temps are not unusual at all in the ES with the IO550N.  The N has a bad oil cooler(ineffective).  TCM acknoledges this, but won't do anything about it because that particular oil cooler is certified with that engine, and they can't change it without re-certification.  There are some small changes you can make to at least help the situation.  I would suggest you go through the ES list archives.(not this LML list).    This has been discussed many times before and I'm sure all the info you are looking for is there.  The IO550G has the good oil cooler/vernatherm and is the same one that's on the TSIO550E I believe.   Mike Easley has done many many hours of research on this subject, and is the one who got Cont. to acknowledge the problem.  If you call TCM, they will tell you not to worry about it as long as the oil temp stays below 240.  Nice answer huh?

Ron

I apologize for asking a question that has been covered before, but I am having a problem with the archives.  I fly a Super ES with firewall forward done by Lancair with a new IO 550N.  I have about 140 hours on the plane and have had high oil temps from the beginning.  Yesterday with high ambient temps (95) I reached 220 degrees in my initial climb by the time I got to 3500 ft.  I am now ready to try to fix the problem and would like some advice.
