I had a Mooney that was equipped with this device and had the intake filter ice over. The engine stopped and in less than a minute started again. The Mooney engineer said that the filter iced over and the mixture sensor in the throttle body iced over because the ram air was open.. The mixture control said "I got no air I don't need any fuel" and the engine stopped. With the prop windmilling the engine was developing a vacuum in the intake manifold which opened a spring loaded door in the intake system and induced warm air from the engine compartment. The ice on the sensor melted, the mixture control said "Now I got air" and turned the fuel back on. This is a very simple device and probably idiot proof. I am still alive.
