The straght ball valve was not designed to handle the pressure of the systems in our airplanes. Swagelock valves will handle the pressure. As for the return line, I have heard no talk of this on the 235,320/360 airplanes until now. I was planning to do this due to some issues I have had with my system building pressure in the hot sun. When I went to leave OSH both gear gauges read 1050 lbs. If I had taken off in that condition, the gear would not have come up as the gear up swich would open due to the pressure being over it's limits. Tthis has happend to me before when I was in Vegas. If I had a return line to the resevoir I could open the dump valve and 0 the pressure. I went under the airplane with a 9/16 wrench and cracked one of the high pressure fittings and released the pressure. This is a pain and I intend to add a 3 way valve and return line as soon as practicle.

The Legacy hydraulic diagram shows the return line to the Oildyne reservoir. Our older 320 series do not show anything but a Hi/Lo line system.

Does the Swagelock valve port both the Hi side and the Low side to the return at the same time?

My 320 is working fine with the straight dump setup. I am trying to understand the Legacy reasons for the Swagelock.
