Never mind "perpendicular to the firewall", aim your adjustable rudder
pedal assembly at the stick.
Keep it as close to the wheel well as your feet will comfortably allow, and
install as low as possible.
Your legs aren't nearly as long as mine, so your knees/shins should have no
problem with conflict with the instrument panel.
