I've been wondering about that.    I just changed my oil from 50 to 15-50.
With the straight 50 I had noticeable turbo lag (like I got to 38" about halfway through the takeoff roll).
With the 15-50 I had 38" almost instantly.   86 dF OAT.
Maybe that's the difference between clean and dirty oil but I doubt it. 
I assume this is related to wastegate operation somehow. 
 
This is certainly possible due to the viscosity change if the oil temp is low.  Think of it as "steering control". <g>  Living in Phoenix makes the straight weight decision much easier.
