The typical oil screens that have been used for years are very coarse,
whereas the SS filter plate is milled with smaller holes in a higher
density. My work with filtration goes back many decades but even then
the surface filtering Millipore filters were more predictable and better
than the fiber mass paper filters. By having a specific hole in the
filtering surface larger particles are trapped and smaller ones pass
through. With a mass filter (paper fibers or mineral bed) there are
pathways through the bed that catch the largest particles. Then as the
filter gets plugged with large chunks only the smaller channels pass the
fluid and these get plugged with smaller chunks until finally the back
pressure becomes too great and the bypass kicks in. I remember reading
some test results on the ADC filter a couple years ago but I do not
remember the source.

ADC believes that the routing of the oil through hoses external to the
engine (spin-on filters have the same) plus the heat dissipating vanes
machined into the filtration housing (not available with cylindrical
cans) act as an additional oil cooler. Does it work? I dunno. The ADC
is my original installation so I have no comparison. However my
operation has been limited by CHTs, not oil temps, so it is certainly
not causing any problem.

When I get to the office on Monday I'll post some photos of the
installation.
