Thanks for the clear explanation of how the systems get everything to play together. 
 
I was not concerned about which one to believe because Chelton seems to make that choice for the pilot: if it does not trust the data then the blue screen is displayed, so use the other display.  However from what you say the 425 will not give the redundancy I desire because of the language problem. The inability of the Chelton to participate in a conversation involving multiple dialects is a clear indication that it's heritage is English. ;-) 
 
So I will swap out the units and check the connectors.  Is there a Chelton-savey avionics guy in Ohio who could look over the system?  If not I'll be heading to Virginia for the services of Avionics Systems.  They built the panel but did not handle the plane installation.  Perhaps their review of the wiring would turn up something.
 
And again I am very pleased with the response from all corners of the Chelton empire.
