It not only contains a 2 place intercom, but you can also choose to monitor the standby frequency, such as ATIS. If the active frequency receives a transmission, the monitored standby is blanked out. This is better than two comms, monitoring ATIS on the second thru the audio panel, since usually it would be necessary to manually switch off the second comm selection to hear the incoming transmission on the first. Audio sampling techniques are used for the monitored frequency, so the audio is not perfect, but it is usable. BTW, the intercom is inactive during monitoring. The squelch and intercom VOX parameters are digitally set thru the "system" function on the unit. The intercom works great even when the Rotax is turning 6300 RPM. The radio is excellent and is connected to a bent whip belly-mounted with a 14" square ground plane shared with the transponder antenna. For more info, goto http://www.upsat.com/prodovr.html If only these "slimlines" were around when I built the Lancair, I certainly would have used them instead of Terra. I also use the Rocky Mountain Micro-Encoder for all the air-data. The micro-encoder feeds this information to the GPS so that winds aloft are just one button push. Sometimes I look out the window, too.
