I've got a question for all you mechanical/structural kind of people.

When bonding the stub wing skins on, there is an obvious gap between the
main spar and the wing skin.  There is a SB that leads one to bond a foam
insert onto the wing skin, cover the foam with 4 bid, and then use
epoxy/flox to bond the modified wing skin onto the spar.

My question would be:  Is there any structural reason why I can't bond the
foam directly to the main spar, sand to shape and fit to the stub wing, and
then bond the wing skin to the airframe using epoxy/flox?  I think that I
can get a much better fit and consequently a much better bond this way.  Is
there a potential for  a problem with the flexing of the main spar?  This
appears to be the same bonding method used with the foam inserts between the
spar and fuselage and also with the foam spacers on the bottom of the center
main spar area in the belly pan.  Please comment.

[Curtis... I suppose it's almost six of one, half a dozen of the other, but
in reality it's probably easier to shape the spar side of the foam to
the flat spar than it is the skin side of the foam to the convex shape
of the inner skin for final fit.  Additionally, you can size the individual
foam parts with modeling clay stuck to each end and the center of the
spar cap, and then sand the foam in between to the right taper.  I've
got some photos of when I did mine, I'll try to find them and send
them along under separate cover for you.
