On my way from Redmond back to NY yesterday I had a similar favorable FBO
happening in Yankton, SD. I used the 100LL web site to find a cheap fuel
stop and picked KYKN as a good, cheap stop. Called in on unicom and Gary the
owner/operator responded and offered to meet me at the fuel farm to make my
turn around as expeditious as possible. On the ground, Gary offered me food,
drink, facilities and told me about his decades of IA and A&P experience and
capabilities and how he loves airplanes, aircraft-oriented work and running
an FBO that offers what pilots need. Like a real live courtesy car, pilot
weather, and recommendations about what to do and where to do it locally if
you're there for the night. A good guy, a good stop and a great attitude.
Not so incidentally,among other things he's got a GlasAir and an Epic
LT based there and his fuel price was about $1/gallon cheaper
than neighboring Sioux Falls prices.
