Dan,
Go get one of those $50 washing mashine water level
sensing switches and incorporate it to the pitot
system. I just put a T in the tube from the pitot and
ran a line to the washing machine switch under the
panel. On my airplane the switch closes at a pre set
airspeed. I have a .$50 micro switch in the wheel
well. If the airspeed drops below the preset speed and
if the micro switch is closed (gear up condition)I get
a red gear warning lignt on the panel in front of my
face. I have thought about making the light blink
and/or adding an audible warning with it. If the
switch ever failed The worst that would happen is that
i would either loose the safety function(fail closed)
or not be able to raise the gear( fail open).

I also used a similar switch for a squat switch. I
added another T to the pitot tube line and ran it to
this switch. The circuit is open if the airspeed is
below 60 KTS keeping the up side of the gear switch
from getting power while the airplane is on the
ground.
I believe you can buy similar switches through
Lancair.
I got mine from a neighbor that does appliance repair.
I dissasembled them both and made simple mount with
and adjustment screw easily accesable from under the
panel.
Has worked flawlessly for 150 HRS. Cost/weight was
almost nothing.
FWIW...

Has anyone come up with a simple system for a "gear
