Colyn, the trim limits are normally set by the designer and verified during test to provide “hands off” flight in all normal operating modes and configurations. For the elevator/pitch trim, the most taxing is usually the takeoff and landing configuration/operating speeds. A lot of home-builts don’t fully achieve this, especially in the flare to touchdown, but you might consider maintaining at least enough trim authority to achieve a neutral stick force during normal approach, even if you need to add a bit of back pressure for touchdown. Just a thought.
