The IO-550 is one hell of a good engine. Having the boost pump on at certain times is not mandatory. It depends on temperatures of the fuel & atmosphere & the lapse rate. If you are worried about the lights going out, hence the engine, those are compound odds and are really quite favorable to you. If you are still worried, install another alternator and another battery with a crossfeed capability and use -8 fuel lines all the way from the tanks to the gascolator. I like those odds even better.
