My retractable step has only been installed a short time.  So far I have not experienced any problems with it.

Posted for billhogarty <billhogarty@hughes.net>:

Am I the only one having a problem with the spring that actuates the
locking pin on the retractable step. I have had to replace it once and now
it has collapsed again.

Any one else have this problem? Is there a replacement spring maybe using
stronger material?

Anyone knowledgeable about springs?

Thanks, Bill Hogarty

[Some general rules about coil springs, if the size of spring wire used remains the same, if you halve the coil diameter you double the spring force and 2) if you halve the number of coils per inch you also double the spring force.  If you keep the number of coils per inch and the coil diameter the same but double the OD of the spring wire you quadruple the spring force.  <Marv> ]
