Chris

Here is a picture of my 360 with the ECI cold air plenum and sump and Vetterman 4-pipe exhaust.

The plenum and sump are about $2k and made of magnesium, nice pieces. The exhaust was $700. There is plenty of room between the intake pipes, and the exhaust fits tightly against the bottom of the plenum.

Maybe you could sell yours and get some of the money back.

Van's sells some thick aluminum foil with sticky back that works great for heat shield inside the cowl.

Folks,
I am fitting the cowling around an IO-360-M1A/B on a 320 airframe. This engine has a wide sump and inlet pipes that are too close together to allow the exhaust pipes to pass in between. The result is a larger cross section that doesn't fit inside the standard cowling/scoop combination. I have cut slots in the cowling/scoop to accommodate the exhaust, and will need to modify the cowling clear it.

First question is how much clearance to leave between the exhaust and the cowling, and what recommendations do you have for heat shields at the critical locations.  The advice I have received so far is quite variable, so I don't expect a consensus, but any views would be appreciated.

And if anyone has been here before and just happens to have a mould for this combination I'd be interested in hearing from them. I'm in Houston, TX.

Second question is what's the minimum clearnace between the boss on the crankcase where the forward mounted governor is located  and the upper cowling? The space at present is aboutt 1/4 inch. I could add a small blister to increase clearance. but I've never seen one and I don't believe I have the only forward mounted governor out there.  Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your advice,
Chris Skelt
