up for high time Lancairs. Had play in my left inboard ailerorn hinge,,
replaced the 0.088" pin with a 0.092" and hinge tight, but still had
play. All rod-end bearings and bolts were ok, but the "L" shaped bracket
that attaches to the aileron itself with two AN-3 bolts (they were tight)
actually had been pulled away from the aileron near the web of the bracket,
about 0.010" or so. The bracket was deformed, the push-pull tube action had
literally pulled the unsupported bracket away from the aileron . ONe more
thing to check as breaking this bracket, will result in loosing control
of the aileron for a really bad day... Am replacing both left and
right brackets with 1" steel angle iron....
Don,
Remember to re-balance the ailerons after replacing the bracket with
heavier steel ones.
Do you usually park outside? Is it possible that the bracket was
deformed by the ailerons banging around during high winds while parked?
