  Dear Micah Froese
I will agree with Marv on engine consumption of oil when filled to their total capacity. I just want to give you an idea as to what I have seen in my experience.

1. Cessna 185  Cont. IO-470  total oil Cap. 12 Liters.  would consum two liters in first one hour and then at 10 litters it will fly more then ten hours.
2. Mooney  Ovation  IO-550-G total cap. 8 liter will consume one liter in half an hour.
3.    Lancair IV P  Cont. TSIO-550 total oil cap. 12 liters. will consume first two liters in one hour.

4.  Cessna 414A with Ram VII Cont. TSIO-520. Total cap. 12 liters.  Will consume first two liters in one hour. This is the first time that the Pilot Operating Hand book states very clearly that do not fill oil to 12 liters unless the flight is more that 3 hours.

After my experience with the above engine I will agree with Marv that it is better to fill oil to the limit where the engine will not blow oil overboard and mess up the airframe.

Sajid Ahmed.
