They ought to work, but in practice they don't. In my previous life as a sailboat dealer, we sold the marine version of these pins to speed up rigging the mast on trailerable sailboats. After a few self released resulting in mayhem to people and property we advised against using them. I knew people who dropped their mast several times after being warned.
