I flew in a Diamond DA40 this week. They have a sight
glass that plugs into (with a quick connect) the lowpoint on the wing and
displays the fuel level in the wing. I was told there are some issues with
the fuel squirting around. There is a form on the sight glass that fits
around the leading edge of the wing with a locater hole so you place it
correctly to assure an accurate reading. Pretty low tech for such a high
tech airplane but it seems to work.

I have been playing around with just such a device that can be used for
checking fuel level during a preflight, especially useful on a low-wing plane
where the dipstick doesn't always reach the fuel.
