Lanc's had Merlins...

I was being goofy when I made my last message about the F8 being the F-8 Crusader. George does make a good point about the F8F Bearcat... But...

Overall, the P-51 made the best use of technology and was overall  the best fighter plane. It combined ease of flying, range, firepower, survivability and manuverability and speed all into one package.

On the other hand, the Bearcat was more of an interceptor. It was built to kill kamakazes. It climbed better and was more manuverable. Drawbacks? No range, problems with the outer wing panel structure, a firewall that wasn't, and a lower critical Mach number airfoil.

Chicks dig both types. Oh bollocks! I'll take either one. Sign me up.
