Erik and Robert,
Today Keith and I will do some training with both the
480, MX20, and CFS. Actually, it will take me all week, thick head, ya
know.
What I can say is the Autoload of freq. from the CFS is
only possible to the SL30 not the 480. Why? When UPS designed the 480 they used
the great radio from the SL30 but never finished developing the import side.
Then along came Big "G" with lots of money and bought the division of UPS and
set different priorities for the engineers, like get 430/530 waas approvals. I
understand that this hasn't come up on the radar screen to get done since the
number of 480's that could take to the CFS is very small.
As for my use of the 480 with the CFS, I call up Freq.
right on the 480, it is just as easy as with using the CFS.
Secondly, I haven't needed cross full. I have all my
normal Flight Plans in both systems and if I'm going to a new destination I put
my departure and destination into the 480 so I always have my destination
info displayed on the MX20 and 480. The 480 is so easy to add waypoint's to that
FP or get nearest info/ etc. that it has not been an issue. When/if I call up an
ILS on the 480, which displays on the round gauge you can also put the HSI on
the CFS and watch the HITS in the CFS fly the airplane down the GPS derived ILS
and see the Native ILS from the 480 also on the screen. The TruTrak couple is
another subject Keith and I will spend time on.

Erik,
Don't want to sound like a "Dittohead" (perrish the
thought) but I too have the Chelton with the GNS480 and it really bugs me to
read that Chelton will autoload frequencies - except for the dummies who opted
for the 480. I will order Keith's 480 manual and look forward to
reading on the LML any suggestions on use.

Hi All:
Just got Keith Thomassen's Chelton Flight
System Manual in the mail and I would have to agree (and then some) with the
other posts, this manual is FANTASTIC in both content and presentation.
I
fly an Airbus A-300-600 for FedEx with a
Honeywell FMS/EFIS.... I wish we had something half as good as this
presentation.
My Legacy also has a GNS-480 and notice Keith has a manual for this... I ordered it
immediately just based on what I saw with his Chelton manual.
BTW.... is there anyone out there that is
flying with the GNS-480 and Chelton that could provide any helpful hints as to
how you use BOTH systems efficiently? As there is no cross-fill available
from one to the other, do you program each with a flight plan or use one predominately and the other as a standby or
???
Thanks for any advice you can share... I'm new to both systems with a
LOT to learn!!
Regards,
Erik Larson
