I just watched an episode of Mythbusters (great show) and this very issue was
experimented.
After all the testing, cell phones don't cause explosions, static does, most
commonly from women's panty hose BUT young people almost always cause a fire
MORE than older people because older people grab on the car to help them get
out - whereas young people jump out and no static is discharged.
They said the number 1 most important thing you can do is touch your car (or
wing) and the ground before even touching the pump.
Interesting but makes perfect sense.
