I think I might be in the first group to receive the Pinpoint stuff since D2AV closed.  I'm not done yet, but here are some things I've learned that might be helpful:

 

1.  The recommended GPS antenna is the Comant CI-420-220.  I do not believe that it is included in the Pinpoint hardware from Chelton.   

 

2.  The SmartMedia card is inserted into the Chelton IDU with the gold side down and towards the nose of the airplane.  This is different from the instructions I have.  When inserted correctly, the entire card is inside the IDU and there is a tiny unlabeled "eject" button to the right of the card.  (Lucky for me, the "eject" button ejects the card, not the pilot.)

 

3.  The SmartMedia card must be formatted on a computer before inserting it into the IDU.  Format for FAT (FAT 16, not FAT 32).  This is different from the instructions I have.

 

I can't thank the people at Chelton enough for picking up the ball and providing such outstanding support to us "orphans" from D2AV.
