I had a close look at my strut and suggest the following for
consideration: file a small crescent into the aft, bottom of the flange
(a “witness hole”) to allow any leaking oil to escape and become visible
at the edge of the flange and on the top of the fork.  A big leak would
put a drop or two of oil on the tire.

A small crescent cut by a needle nose rat tail file should be adequate,
would not weaken the flange if put between the bolt holes, and will
avoid the possibility of a stress riser that would come from drilling a
small hole in the aluminium fork where it could start to propagate a
crack.   The sketch below is looking forward.  Witness hole faces aft to
prevent water from entering when the gear is extended during rain or mist.
