Bob,
I am also in the midst of doing the firewall fwd on a TSIO-550 (for an
ES). I bought the Barry mounts mentioned in Bryn Burr's reply (the green,
high temp ones). They worked/fit perfectly.
FYI, attached is a photo of the Lancair display tent tsio550 from OSH. In this
picture you'll note that the turbo oil return lines each connect directly to
the oil scavenge pump with a Tee fitting (one hose for each side - two hoses in
total). Whereas, the standard TSIO-550 has three oil return hoses - one
for each side and a common feeder (#60 in attached TCM pdf).
I’m waiting for a response from Tim Ong if this is a workable
setup (he said he’ll send some additional photos last week). It
would save a hose and a couple connections. I’m also waiting on a
reply as to which if any of the fuel drain hoses (pump case, spider, injectors)
should be firesleeved. I’ll fwd whatever I receive to you.
I had an issue with the fittings on the oil reservoirs hitting the
lower cowling. You’ll note on the Lancair display engine the fittings
on the reservoirs have been modified – to exit straight back. I re-welded
mine to match the photo.
Tim suggested that the fuel feed hoses be #8 hoses (1/2”).
However, the fuel feed fittings on a TSIO-550 engine are #6. I do not
know how I’m going to handle that yet.
I ordered a TSIO-550 cable kit from Lancair (Throttle/Prop/Mixture).
It included “most” of the brackets and hardware. The throttle
cable bracket (p/n TB563) didn’t fit at all and apparently needs some
spacers. I’m still trying to find a part number for them. If
I recall correctly, I also needed to order the mixture cable bracket as a separate
item (p/n 565-02). Furthermore, the bracket needs a special nut which also
needs to be ordered separately (p/n 91811a031). The mixture bracket is
only held on by 1 bolt (AN6-5A), which is held in place by a star-type lock
washer. I am thinking about replacing that bolt with one with a drilled
head for a safety wire.
Lancair sells a fuel pump shroud to help keep the fuel pump cool.
My manual lists it as a p/n 518-02. However, it seems that it is
really a p/n 518-04. The same thing is sold as an assembly with the scat
hose as p/n 518-io550. I believe it also fits the tsio550. It is
mounted with a special stud which I believe Lancair sells as p/n 518-3 (the Aerocraft
website lists it as a 518-3 “stub”).
Aircraft spruce sells some very nice split cable bushings for where the T/P/M cables penetrate the firewall (Cable Safe p/n 05-16252).
Hope this helps, - or perhaps I’m the blind leading the blind.
