Yesterday, I sent an email off to Mr. Cameron at VMS in Texas and made the following offer...

If JPI/VMS would agree to send their eprom burning equipment to me on loan, I would be willing to volunteer to get it up and running and if it's not too much of a hassle, burn a bunch of chips for those who need them.
I don't have a clue how many builders are still out there who have a need to have data burnt to chips but I am one...(:

In any event, it could be a win-win situation for JPI/VMS, if nowhere else but in the goodwill maintenance department. Of course, I'm motivated by self-interest and I'll bet there are people on this list who have a similar need and know a lot more about this crud than I do.

In any event, lets see if I get a response...
