Aerosance's FADEC Advantages: 1) no mixture or boost pump adjustment (simple operation) 2) runs at best power over 2300rpm and best economy under. most of the time our engine run grossly rich. with Aerosance's FADEC it always hunts for best power which is alittle lean of peek power (peak heat?) so it will burn less fuel than our current designs. http://www.avweb.com/articles/pelperch/graphics/pp18b.jpg in way LOP operation the power *quickly* drops off, so unless you have a turbo to get more MP, you are stuck in go slow mode especially over 8k feet. even with an EGT probe failure or WOT 2700rpm the injectors never go 100% duty cycle. looking instead at what the other cyls are calling for. 3) each cly is independently monitored so it should be very smooth I'm sure with all the testing George has done he can get close with GAMIjector(R) fuel injectors, but an active balancing system is always more accurate. even though you might not be able to feel it. :-) {I flew in a B35TC with GAMIjector that skipped a fire cycle every 30 sec 50 LOP... the pilot claimed this was normal, but I was excited to get on the ground... the TSIO-550 in the LC30 50LOP was very smooth} 4) software upgradable to 92UL or whatever when blue stuff is unavailable. (software is more adjustable than fixed mags :-) This is an important point if you wanta fly your plane 5 years from now. I would want them to work on the 92UL software anyway, as 92UL is still a moving target. 5) ability to graph every aspect of your motor 6) can get home with most failures. 7) one can buy it!!! Aerosance's FADEC Disadvantages: 1) no best economy mode above 2300rpm for higher %hp down low. 2) Complexity.. more wires and connectors required for economy flight. I don't think experimental airplanes can do 135 work anyway. 3) total electoral failure turns the motor off. (well, I've lost a P-lead before too, so this might not be too bad) FBO wouldn't have parts or know what to do with your motor. (I *have* changed a mag at a strange airport, so it was nice that they had one on the self) 4) at least $8k more, excluding SBC and extra wiring. so *my* bottom line is, if I had a TSIO and flew high in a LC30 I would want PRISM, (when ever it gets to market, come on George! :-) but for a normally aspirated LEG2 that lives under 8k, can burn new fuels, less workload and more power, Aerosance's FADEC is the way to go. Rob ps: sorry, its not normal for me to get sucked in like this, but this decision is a large % of my net worth, so its been very painful and highly researched... but I could be dead wrong.. -- Seldom are there technical solutions to people problems. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LML website: http://members.olsusa.com/mkaye/maillist.html LML Builders' Bookstore: http://www.buildersbooks.com/lancair Please remember that purchases from the Builders' Bookstore assist with the management of the LML.
