 Ouch!  I'm really glad that you and Sue are ok after your buzzard encounter,
although I'll bet your adrenaline levels are still on high side.  Just out of
curiosity what was your altitude when this happened?  I recall reading that
birds will usually dive in a close encounter with an airplane, but the closer
you are to the  ground the more likely they are to pull up instead.
 
 I hope N5ZQ is readily repairable and you're back in the air soon.
