I've actually taken my chute as a carry-on numerous times without a peep
from the TSA types. Go figure!

I understand that wearing a parachute is a personal preference but until
recently, I ALWAYS flew with a parachute. Sure, its not required but
its safe and I always wanted the maximum options available.
However, recent changes in regulations has convinced me otherwise and
I've decided it's just not worth it. The new heightened scrutiny makes
it a pain to get through security and with the recent change in seating
pitch on planes, especially Delta, the seats are so close together that
I can't even fold the tray table down without bumping into the chute, so
I just gave it up...though I do feel naked flying without it.
