Steve,

When you say 18,000 ft, do you mean pressure altitude, density altitude or actual altitude above MSL? I think that you are being to picky about the exact altitude to switch masks at.

I have had my Mountain High (MH) EDS for about 4 years now and never had a failure. Well almost never. Whoops..., one time I bumped the on switch and the battery was dead.

Back when I first started using the MH EDS, I, like you, was curious about how high I could use the cannula. I talked to someone at MH and they said that they had used the cannula without any problem to, if I remember correctly, 35,000 ft. I do believe that it is an FAA regulation that requires the switch to a face mask at 18,000 ft. Todays MH system with the EDS should be OK for a little over 18,000 ft. After all, 19,000 ft is not like you are going to 35,000 ft. Remember you are running a normally aspirated engine not TCed.

Remember also that the MH EDS also has the ability to give you a little more O2 if you need it with the +5K, +10K and +15K settings.

The system was working great up to 18,000 ft.  Now I have to admit, I was using the cannula and didn't initially plan on going above 18000 ft.  However, I did have the face mask with me which you're supposed to use at 18000 and above. Yes, the instructions say the mask must be used at 18000.
