IV-P & ES Builders,

I have noticed a relocation of the door gas strut on recent pictures of IV-P's and most recently Robert Simon's ES.  The manual I'm following calls for a phenolic block to be added to the top of the door stiffener, drill a 5/16" hole and bolt the gas strut to it.  Then locate another phenolic block behind the aft door frame for the bottom end of the cylinder.

I noticed on Robert's door that the strut is attached about midway the back of the stiffener and appears to attach somewhere near the top of the door opening frame.  Does this allow the door to open further?  One obvious advantage is the gas strut doesn't interfere with the ingress / egress to the back seat.

Would someone please shed some light on this "new" installation?

Thanks in advance,
