For what its worth, I've demonstrated this in a C-182 and a C-177, The 182 was esp. scary as it was a pretty huge divergence, mind you you could control it a bit. The catch was I had a touch of flaps out [ not much but say 10 or so..] it would only do it when you were near the flap speed and poped out a few and then cross controled to loose speed [ skydive pilot tricks].
