Alain you are correct in most cases, I am refering to the smaller
airplanes in our corporate fleet, which although smaller are FAA certified
for flight in known icing conditions. I wasnt very clear about that. My
point was that having pitot heat off doesnt save you anything, so why not have
it on all the time and keep clear of danger? And yes, your point is well
said, with a Lancair, you had better be clear of icing.
