I have a 72.5 inch propeller and twice two different occasions I have made ground contact with the prop. I have a 6" nominal ground clearance but the nose wheel is so far behind the prop that a little dip in the ground can put the prop into the ground. The second time I bent the tips a little and to be safe, we took the engine apart and reoverhauled it. It is disgusting to overhaul an engine with 300 hours on it. The good part is with 300 hours engines don't have much wear. Everything was like new inside, but it made me feel better to have looked at it.
Now I don't get off the pavement. If anyone directs you into the grass stop and shut down. There has been no problem on pavement. Pulling is much more prop safe on grass.

I am just getting round to selecting the prop for my 360. Could someone advise me what the realistic maximum diameter is to avoid trimming the tips every time you hit a bump on the taxiway, or brake hard? I have heard various figures from 68 to 72 inches, and would like to know what other people's experience is. I am looking at a 71 inch prop as one candidate.
Also, can you increase ground clearance by putting a small spacer between the nose oleo and the nose gear fork, or does that introduce other problems? Thanks.
