I went to Padacah, Ky to pick up my plane yesterday. I first test flew it for 15 minutes over the field and then, after landing and looking the plane over, flew it 400nm home to Detroit. It flew like a top.
It took 7 hours to get to Padacah through Memphis on Northwest and 2.5 hours to get back in my Lancair. Small Lancairs just can't be beat for traveling.
The problem was that "freeze plug" in the crank had come loose and cocked.
I was leaving Paducah, KY Sunday when my prop governor (I hope) stopped working. On climb-out at about 95 kts the engine RPM went quite high.
We are going to work in stages to determine the problem. 1) prop governor (McCauley). 2) prop Hub (Aero Composites prop & McCauley hub) 3) crankshaft plug.
Lets hope for the first.
