I had the September 1996 Sport Aviation laying around with a permanent
crease exposing the Engine Cooling Problems article. It has been used by
several experimenters at my airport. Any way, I thumbed through it and
noted the following:
The new Lancair Super ES was the subject of an article in this
issue.
Brent Regan was noted as the winner of the 1996 Denver to OSH race
(sponsored by Aircraft Spruce) at 299.9 Knots in his IV-P. See the
attached jpeg.
BTW, at the time of that race, I had 1.2 hours flown on my recently
certificated Lancair 320, now more commonly known as Race # 94.
Lancarians, that was a time when cross country racing still interested the
EAA. This is no longer true and, although they are willing to handle the
insurance for the race, there will be no EAA financial support.
The 2006 Dayton to OSH Race needs sponsors.
Several sponsors at just a few thousand each would get the race going
with more than 40 Experimental racers happy to plaster your corporate
logo decals on the side of their aircraft (low drag decals please).
Think of the advertising!
Think of the thousands seeing your logo as they pass thru the special
air-racer parking area at OSH.
Think about it!
Go to the official race web site
http://www.airventurecup.com/main.html and
contact Eric Whyte. Open your hearts and wallets - think of it as a write off
whilst promoting your products to aviation enthusiasts.
As a matter of fact, sponsors can join the race, too! Impress your
friends, foes and relatives! Join the 40+ planes that make the most
of a large group flight from Fond Du Lac to OSH after the finish line.
Come to Dayton and the Wright Brother's Airport for the start. There are many
special places there - Wright-Patterson USAF Museum (
http://www.wpafb.af.mil/museum/), the
Engineer's Club (
http://www.engineersclub.org/), a
certain bicycle shop, etc.
