I would like some opinions on how well a Stormscope works on a Lancair IV
and where is the best location for the Antenna. I Plan on using a WX-500
Stormscope displayed on an Avrotec Computer.

Tom,
I installed a WX950 on an IVP and it works fine. The antenna is located
roughly between the gear legs, and the base of the antenna bolted to the bare
carbon (no paint under the antenna). The only quirk is that we get some noise
(a streak of false lighting indications) when the hydraulic pump runs. There
is a "suppression" input on the stormscope (I'm not sure if the -500 has it,
as I don't have the manual handy.) which, when grounded, causes the system to
ignore any signals. It was intended to be connected to a transmitter key-line
supress interferance during transmit. My plan was to put a small control
relay in the hydraulic pump circuit to ground the suppression input during
pump operation. The owner wasn't concerned about it, however, so we never
installed it.
