That is correct. Fly the plane. My instructor during private pilot training opened the door on me and it was a non event.  Just a little noisy that is all.  Flight characteristics are the same.  Ditto for the canopy of the lancair.  One should be more careful when landing as turbulance and airflow over the stab and elevators might be somewhat different.  Be aware of pitch differences.
