 I agree with John.

The purpose of these kits (http://www.uslan.com/hinge-kit.html ) is to
prevent wear. Many kits, evidently this one too, was put in *after* there was
wear. The excessive wear you are experiencing now, or you think it is
excessive, will probably be O.K.

The Teflon prevents any more wear because it is softer and *HAS* to wear
first. The "slop" some are experiencing will not get any worse so long as you
have the Teflon tube around the SS wire protecting the AL2 hinge material.

As one builder mentioned in an early email, "Teflon lined pins stop/slow down
wear but still have play." As long as the Teflon is intact, there will be *NO*
wear. If there is "slop" it is because the hinge is out of spec, not the kit I
supply. The kit was carefully designed to match the specifics of the hinge and
incidentally was approved by Burt Rutan to be used on all of his airplanes
which coincidently use the same hinge we are talking about here.

Not enough space here to tell you of the hoops necessary to "please" Burt,
but Mike Melville (SS One) and I worked hard to meet the demands. Also, we
have a metallurgical report to go with the kit, you know exactly what you are
getting. There have been over 3 thousand kits sold with only several anomalies
and those were contributed to builder errors.

 Warm regards,

 Gary
