Carl,
I must disagree with your assessment of the FAA's proposed policy/enforcement changes. They are not at all trying to stop all of us from building our planes. They are only trying to enforce the long standing principals spelled out in the definition of an amateur built aircraft. Today's market place has evolved to the point that one can purchase and fully complete a home built aircraft without ever physically touching the plane. Every aspect of construction can be farmed out to hired guns. In order to preserve the privilege of building aircraft that are in compliance with the letter and the spirit the amateur built provisions, we should support the efforts of the FAA and discourage the abuse of the amateur built category. The EAA is not making a big deal of this because they too are concerned about preserving the amateur-built class for all of us. Builder assist shops, builder seminars and workshops that serve to educate are not at all in jeopardy.
