Dan, Thought you might like to know that Thielert does have a 4.0 litre, 350HP, type certified to EASA requirements V8 diesel aircraft engine, go to: http://www.centurion-engines.com/c40/c40_start.htm .  The sad news is, it appears they are targeting OEMs for the engine and it will cost in the vicinity of EU48,000.

 The DeltaHawk has plans for a 300 HP engine that could be very nice (at a weight penalty of course), but that has yet to be tested.  Theilert hasn't got anything either yet that I'm aware of.
