There have been several questions here regarding the new Legacy 2000 lately
which seemed to have gone unanswered.  I decided to call the factory and
spoke with Kim to get the complete story on the Legacy's place in the
Lancair stable, and am pleased to share the highlights of that conversation
with you here.

First and most importantly, the Legacy has, in fact, superceded the Lancair
320/360 kit, just as the 320 replaced the 235 awhile back.  Naturally,
support for the 235 and 320 series of aircraft will continue to be provided
to their builders and owners, just as it has always been.  The Legacy is,
in effect, the next step in the evolution of the Lancair 2-seat design, and
one that appears to have been enthusiastically received by the homebuilt
community... upon its initial unveiling at Oshkosh the factory received
deposits and wrote orders for ten kits the same day that the Legacy showed
up, which is quite an accomplishment.  Initial deliveries are expected to
be made in approximately six months.

The new Legacy kit incorporates many changes to the 2-seat design, not the
least of which (from my perspective, anyway) are a totally new wing design,
a fuselage which is molded in top & bottom halves as opposed to left/right
and which will provide increases in both cabin width and height, the
incorporation of slotted flaps, a considerably expanded flight envelope,
the ability to utilize engines ranging from the Lycoming O-320 all the way
up to a 300 hp 6-cylinder, and a completely different main landing gear system.

The Lancair website (http://www.lancair.com) has been updated to include
most of the Legacy's specifications and has some 360/Legacy comparison
photos available so you can see the differences between the two airframes.
Additionally, I have been provided with a very nice series of Legacy photos
taken at Oshkosh by Bob Stia which will be uploaded to the LML homepage
later today... thank you Bob.
