This is what resulted in short, stubby main gear which were difficult to cram into the stub wings and resulted in the aircraft's slightly nose high attitude. Lance "threw that out the window" for the Legacy and made the stub wing width 10' which then gave sufficient room for the longer main gear strut, which provides REAL shock absorbing and solves the excessive nose-high attitude at the same time. Now, in order to keep the wing tanks at the same size, he had to lengthen the wings by approximately one foot each, hence the additional overall wing width. Although the claim is to improve performance, that is the real reason the wings are longer. It is true that high altitude performance is increased, that's above 16,000 ft.
