Hello again,
I got another question. The main gear hydraulic cylinder attach point
inboard identifies a couple parts that are confusing to me. The first of
which is the phenolic standoff on the spar web. The manual says to make it
out of two 1/2 inch phenolic pieces plus another 1/4 inch phenolic piece.
The question is....."Where is the 1/2 inch phenolic?". I've searched all
through the parts and can't identify any 1/2 inch phenolic. Do I need to
buy some? Another question is about the keeper bracket for the cylinder
pin/bolt. Is this included with the kit. I should say that I bought the
hardware bracket kit. The keeper bracket is not on the list and I can't
identify it in the parts bin either. Can this be purchased, or do I need to
make it?

[I wouldn't bother investing in any 1/2" thick phenolic, as this is
probably the only place that will require any. You may find a need for
additional 1//4" however, so if you don't have enough of that, that's
what I would suggest you order. As for making the standoffs all you need
to do is stack up five pieces of 1/4" bonded together with Hysol and
you'll have your required 1-1/4" high parts. You'll probably find
that it's easier to stack and glue larger pieces, so cut the phenolic blanks
at twice the required size plus an allowance for the saw kerf to
separate them into the two standoffs. I think they were supposed to
finish out at 1-1/4" cubes so cut five phenolic pieces at 1-1/4 x 2-5/8
then cut them in half after they're bonded into a 1-1/4" stack.
I don't know about whether or not the keeper brackets were supposed to
be included in the hardware kit, as I chose to fabricate all my brackets
and aluminum parts myself. Follow the directions in the manual and
make the keepers yourself, they really are quite simple to produce with
a little bit of .090 AL, a bandsaw and a vise. Total construction time
for the pair of them should be under 1/2 hour.
